Paint and Relax
As we embark on this new year, we can find ourselves with an overwhelming schedule filled to the brim already. Taking some time to put down our phones, take a step off the beaten path and unwind uninterrupted is easier said than done. But it can be done.
Since the Dish it Out Pottery Painting Studio opened 19 years ago, they’ve been helping people relax and tap into their creative side. Dan and Robin Reinbold are the owners of the studio and they kindly greeted me shortly after I walked through the door.
I took in the purple walls peppered with pottery waiting to be colored, the smell of dried paint and the aprons hung neatly in the corner. I noticed right away that this was a calm and relaxed place. I wasn’t quite sure how the process of painting my own pottery worked, but Mrs. Reinbold enthusiastically explained it all to me: First of all, no appointment is necessary, you can just walk right in. Secondly, you decide which piece of pottery you want to paint. After that, you grab a table and paint your heart out. This is the time you get to take your time and be as creative as you would like. After all, it’s your own work of art.
Then, you wait for your creation to be glossed and placed inside the kiln. That’s it! The cost is $6 per hour, per painter for studio time (the maximum charge is $12) along with the price of the pottery you choose to paint. If you’ve got kiddos who love to discover and try new things, Kid’s Day at Dish it Out would be right up their alley. It’s every Monday between the months of September and May. The price drops to $3 per hour for studio time. You can even get your girlfriends together and enjoying painting for ladies night every Thursday.
The price drops to $3 per hour for studio time, as well. Keep in mind that the process of adding gloss and placing your pottery in the kiln takes about a week, but once you see your piece polished, glossed and ready to be used or given away, the wait will be well worth it. You can visit Dish it Out in two locations: 1600 E. Woodlawn Rd. Suite 252 or 7828-C Rea Road. Contact them at 704.544.4848 and be sure to follow them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
